I began painting at school. My subject choice between Art and Geography; not giving it much thought, was Geography. It lasted one lesson, during which the teacher threw a piece of chalk at me - I got up, excused myself from her class and joined the Art class and have been using my artistic skills ever since. That Geography teacher doesn't know the wonderful opportunity she gave me.
I "sold" my first piece of art in Matric - At that time, my favourite medium was watercolour. It was a large format close up of Cherry Tree flowers that my Drama teacher wanted to buy - unfortunately, not ready to sell myself at that stage, I gave it to her as a gift.
My career as a Chef and then Foodstylist for photographers allowed me to pursue art in another form. Once my kids were well into their school going years and I found an Art teacher, who has been my mentor for the last 5 years. Nowadays, between renovating old houses and taking care of my family, my free time is devoted to drawing and painting as part of an Art Group who are always an inspiration.
I particularly enjoy experimenting with different mediums and using them in unusual combinations. Watercolour, for flowers is still a favourite, but I particularly enjoy its effects on canvas as opposed to paper. Ink and Jik with soft pastel has endless possibilities for me and has proved a favourite with buyers.
